Jap North Carolina is chock total of eccentric nooks and crannies just waiting to be explored by Craven County vacationers itching for a trip off the crushed path. While scenic sights and reward outlets may satisfy the regular traveler, there are those people amongst us who crave something a little….various.

From a museum devoted to fantastical creatures and and obscure artifacts to a rustic hut crammed with trees and clouds, here are five of the strangest roadside rarities in a day’s travel.

Belhaven Museum (East Principal Street, Belhaven, NC)

Considering the fact that 1965 the Belhaven Museum has housed the singular assortment of Mary Eva Blount Way, whose wild menagerie of found treasures includes: a German Entire world War I half-boot pulled from an amputated foot a human skeleton an antique x-ray equipment several farm implements and decaying dolls containers of puppy tooth (circa 1950) and snake eggs (day unidentified) a WWI machine gun and a stamp-sized Bible.

A fetal pig is just one example of the lovingly preserved specimens to be found at the Belhaven Museum.

But what provides most visitors up the steep picket staircase to the second ground of the aged Belhaven Town Corridor is a sequence of health-related reveals. Encased in jars of preservative, a a person-eyed fetal pig, a two-headed kitten, and a harelipped pet dog peer out from their murky recesses. Spherical the corner and you’re confronted with a 10-pound tumor taken off from a feminine client and carted off from Pungo District Hospital. But the museum’s most jarring exhibit is also its most human: 3 prenatal toddlers, one bent ahead as if in prayer, placed aspect by facet, the mild from a close by window illuminating their scarcely-shaped features.
