Liverpool star Fabinho has been left devastated after his father passed away, with his wife Rebeca Tavares sharing the news on social media.  

Tavares took to social media on Friday morning to tell her 174,000 followers that Fabinho’s father, Joao Roberto, had died.

Tavares thanked God for having the privilege of knowing him and promised to take care of his son in a touching tribute.

Fabinho’s wife shared an image of Fabinho’s dad during a ceremony on Instagram. She wrote a caption that read: ‘Father-in-law, you will always be remembered with that smile and passion for the things of the kingdom! 

‘I thank God for the privilege of having known you. Your grandchildren will know the amazing grandfather they had. I love you father-in-law! Ah, I will take good care of your son #RIP’. 

She then confirmed the news on Twitter, by saying: ‘For those who are asking on Instagram… Fabinho’s father has passed. He will be missed.’ 

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp responded to the news saying: ‘It’s a private situation. Fab is here and doing what he’s able to do. We all feel for him and with him. We try to give him all the love and all the warmth we have.’ 

Supporters were quick to send their best wishes to the Liverpool star and his family following the announcement.

One fan wrote: ‘So sorry to hear this. He raised an incredible son so he must have been a wonderful human being. May he Rest In Peace.’

Another added: ‘Sorry to hear. R.I.P to Fabinho’s father. Hope you and Fabinho are able to get through this tough time. We are all here for you guys YNWA.’  

As a result of the news, the Brazilian midfielder will most likely miss this weekend’s game against Burnley due to compassionate leave.

Klopp’s mother Elisabeth died on January 19 at the age of 81, while Alisson’s father tragically drowned in a lake near his holiday home in southern Brazil in February.

Klopp paid tribute to his mother telling fans, ‘she meant everything to me’ and described her as ‘a real mum in the best sense of the word.’

Alisson also paid tribute to his father after scoring a sensational injury-time winner for Liverpool against West Brom last season. 

The Brazil goalkeeper became the first Liverpool stopper to score in the club’s history. In doing so, he secured a 2-1 win that put his team on course for Champions League qualification.

Following the game Becker fought back tears as he said he hoped is dad was watching on before claiming the goal was for his ‘family and for the boys’.

At the time, Alisson said in his post match interview: ‘I’m too emotional, with everything that’s happened in my life recently with my family.

‘Football is my life, from since I remember with my father. I hope he was there watching and celebrating. That was for my family and for the boys.’
